Drama Dock auditions
Pirates of Penzance

Drama Dock is announcing auditions for its summer production, Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Pirates of Penzance.” This is a “light opera,” which means some dialogue, mostly singing, and lots of silliness. It will be directed by Elizabeth Anthony.
There are solo parts for soprano (Mabel), alto (Ruth), tenor (Fredrick), baritone (Pirate King), tenor/baritone (Major General, who sings the famous patter song “I am the very model of the modern Major General”) and bass (Captain of Police). In addition, there is a women’s chorus (Blushing Buds of Ever-blooming Beauty--although the director says they do not have to be “buds” but may be “full-blown roses” or even “slightly wilting”) and a men’s chorus (assorted rollicking pirates and terrified police). Also, the cast can include two boys and two girls between the ages of 10 to 14. All others can be between the age of 15 and decrepit. This includes four chorus leads. Chorus members may expect to have featured cameos.
The auditions will be held in the McMurray Band Room on Thursday, February 9, from 7:00 to 9:00 and on Saturday, February 11, from 3:00 to 5:00. Please be ready to sing a simple song (Happy Birthday will do). A pianist will be available if you wish to sing with accompaniment. Please contact Gaye Detzer detzerubicz@comcast.net or at 567-5193 if you have any questions.
