Opera Preview: Le Comte Ory

Le Comte Ory is Rossini's last comic opera, first performed in 1828 when Rossini was 36. By the time he wrote it, Rossini was living and composing in France so, of course, Le Comte Ory is in French. It is also is quite sexy, story-wise, as early 19th century France was not under such close moral oversight from the Catholic Church as early 19th century Italy. In this work, Rossini wrote what many Rossini authorities consider to be his finest operatic comedy. This free lecture, provided to increase enjoyment and appreciation of Seattle Opera productions, will feature speaker Norm Hollingshead, with recorded musical excerpts. Questions?
