Vashon Chamber Music!

Sunday, February 3, 3 pm Vashon United Methodist Church

All women Trio Pardalote performs in February

Named for the tiny, short-tailed, brilliantly-colored Australian songbird, Trio Pardalote is comprised of violinist Victoria Parker (Seattle Symphony and Seattle Opera), violist Heather Bentley (Concertmaster for Scrape, String Faculty at Lakeside School and Principal Viola at Northwest Sinfonietta) and cellist Rowena Hammill (Los Angeles Opera, Artistic Director, Vashon Chamber Music).

The all-women trio will feature the little-known and fascinating 1925 String Trio composed by rear-admiral of the French navy Jean Cras. He actually wrote the piece while captaining a two-month naval voyage. Hear the Dmitri Sitkovetsky arrangement of the Goldberg Variations by J.S. Bach in the concert’s second half. This piece was originally written for harpsichord and was made famous by the Glenn Gould recording. According to Hammill, the piece works beautifully for violin, viola and cello. “It has an Aria theme followed by 32 variations of amazing contrast and virtuosity,” she adds.
