Children and adults alike are invited to join VWP staff for a morning of pure fun as they offer up some of their best loved nature-based field games that promise to delight the senses and inspire lots of laughter!! Co-sponsored by the Vashon Parks District, Play Day is FREE and refreshments will be provided.

Play Day made its debut in the United Kingdom nearly 25 years ago. Since then, thousands of children and families gather each year in local communities throughout Europe and Australia to celebrate children’s right to play.

While the United States has not established Play Day a national day of celebration, there is a growing movement that recognizes immersion in nature and unstructured play outside as essential for children’s health and well-being.

“This is a perfect event for Vashon, a community that already loves it’s children and values the important effect that play outside has on children’s physical, cognitive, emotional and social health” says VWP’s executive Director Stacey Hinden.

The Vashon Wilderness Program has been helping youth reach their full potential by igniting relationships between self, community and the natural world since 2007. They offer experiential nature immersion programs for youth ages 4-17 in the woods, schools, and wilder places of the Pacific Northwest that revitalize children’s dormant senses and restore our human connection with nature.
