Kinetic Sculpture: Launchings at 5:45PM, 6:30PM, 7:45PM, 8:30PM

A UFO lurks high in the rafters of the Grand Hall at Open Space. It is waiting. Waiting for one human movement, one quick yank –

Which sends it sailing down a zipline, tripping a gong that triggers bowling balls and sets them rolling along a set of descending chimes – before they continue up and down and around a roller coaster ramp and trip a giant hammer…

While also setting off a teeter-totter!

Pill bottles fly into the air, while a huge Earth rises and 25 foot span aluminum wings grace the stage, with fans whishing air that opens the mind.

All this, and more, happens. In one minute.

Thanks to a grant from 4Culture’s Site Specific Arts program, Open Space co-founder Janet McAlpin commissioned artists Jon Carlson and Dave Olson to create a large-scale kinetic art sculpture inspired by Rube Goldberg.
